VNR Labs
The VNR Labs seek to respond to the strong demand from Member States, various institutions and major groups and other stakeholders to take stock of the experience thus far with the Voluntary National Reviews. Eight informal reflection sessions will be organized by Divisions of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs to provide an informal platform to engage countries conducting a VNR in 2018 or having conducted one in the past, along with non-reporting countries, the UN System and other international organizations as well as major groups and other stakeholders. The Labs will allow participants to reflect jointly about how to further improve the VNR process at the HLPF.

WaterAid Women’s Demo – Clean water and sanitation are human rights
WaterAid wants to bring the attention of world leaders to keeping their promise and acknowledging that clean water and sanitation are human rights that everyone should enjoy. They are organising a procession on the morning of Monday 16 July in New York (as well as in London, Madagascar, Malawi, and potentially a handful of other countries in which WaterAid works). These events will be processions of women from and representing diaspora communities of countries which will not have clean water and decent toilets for all by 2030. Women are disproportionately affected by a lack of clean water – they tend to be responsible for collecting water for their households, often from sources that are far away or not clean. Women also take on the greatest burden of caring for family members suffering the water borne diseases that are a fact of life for those who do not have clean water.
The route in New York will start at the Bethesda foundation in Central Park which commemorates the 1842 opening of the Croton Aqueduct, which supplied New York City with fresh water, and walk down Lexington Avenue to the Dag Hammarskjold Plaza opposite UN Headquarters. The walk should take approximately 45 minutes, from about 8-9am on the 16th.
