Zwischen dem 22. Und 24. April fand in Bangkok das „Asia and Pacific Regional Implementation Meeting (RIM) on Rio+20 Outcomes” statt, welches von UNESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific) einberufen wurde.
“The main issues highlighted for the AP region that was interesting were these:
– many seem to voice the need for a broad platform to carry the various aspects of post 2015 Dev Agenda. Whether it be poverty, human rights, climate change, or peace and security. But these concept were really the most controversial part of the meeting. Because the russian federation would hear nothing about trying to include peace and security to the development agenda. China was uncomfortable with human rights approach. Russia, china, india – these big countries reluctant to refer directly to Climate Change while of course the sinking SIDS were continuously shouting that CC was the largest threat.
– the major groups (CSO) most vividly pronounced some really progressive ideas. Wanting to put culture in the agenda, seeking ways to channel in traditional knowledge of the indigenous people into the solutions, really promoting human rights approach, sharp criticism also raised against the financial sector as well and businesses – arguing that even if we should turn to private sector for sus dev in the future, we should not give them those room to take a role without “watching” over them. So basically a set of regulations would be desired so that the companies and the financiers could not abuse the system.
– Everyone seemed to agree that the next set of goals would include goals for developed countries too – i.e. have universally applicable goals but make sure the countries can tailor the targets according to their situation. But not much say on how to do that. This issue i think is more discussed in the OWG on SDGs.”
Des Weiteren fand parallel zur High Level Panel Sitzung im März in Bali, Indonesien das „Asia and the Pacific Parliamentarian and Civil Society Organisation (CSO) Forum on Millennium Development Goal (MDG) Acceleration and the Post-2015 Development Agenda“ statt, organisiert von UNMC (United Nations Millenium Campaign) sowie dem AFPPD (Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development).
