Date / Time: Berlin, 26 June 2018, 9:00-16:30 h
Venue: Marienstraße 19-20, Hinterhaus (rear building) 1st floor, 10117 Berlin
Right before the 40th Board meeting of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), which will take place on 27-29 June in Berlin, Publish What You Pay, Global Witness, Heinrich Böll Foundation, openoil.net und FSB Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) are jointly organising a one day workshop for civil society to discuss the interlinkages between transparency and corruption on one side and climate change and fossil fuels on the other side. Participants will learn about and discuss potential ways that the Publish What You Pay Network and its allies can engage in the climate change discussion. A key focus of the day will be to examine the central corrupting role of the fossil fuel industry in avoiding challenges to its dominant role in the market for energy provision, despite the crisis of climate change. We will also take stock of progress and challenges in recent years in the promotion of transparency through disclosure of climate risk, for example through the EITI, and through legislative processes (in the EU, US, etc.), as a tool in the fight to address climate change, and we will seek to identify opportunities for joint advocacy.
